Counting Cash in Cash Recyclers

My CU has been installing Cash Recyclers in our Branches, and counting the cash in these machines during our surprise audits has created much difficulty. To count the machine, we have been told that the cash must be literally dumped from the machine, and then feed back into the machine to be recounted and then compared to the machine totals. The machines cannot be moved, and are located at the teller line or for most of our branches, in teller pods on an open floor. As our process is to audit branches during normal business hours, we are dumping $60,000 and $80,000 per machine and feeding back in front of the members. Feeding this much money back is taking 1 - 2 hours, so we feel this part of the audit is creating a safety issue for ourselves and the staff in the branch. As most of my branch audits involve travel, waiting until the branch closes to count the recyclers will create logistical issues, so accordingly, I am looking for alternative ways of validating the contents of the cash recycler without having to count the cash.

If your CU uses cash recyclers in your branches, I would be curious as to how you count cash in them.
