Temporary/Counter Check Printing

How does your credit union print temporary checks for members?  Is this process integrated with your core system or do you have a separate software program?  If it is a separate software, what is the software and how has the experience been?  We are trying to update our old manual printing process for temp checks that does not have many controls built in.
