  • Loan application before membership

    Does anyone see a regulatory problem with having a potential member complete a loan application and having that app approved or denied prior to becoming a member ?  If the app is approved it would be done with a stipulation of membership then membership is obtained prior to funds being disbursed. Thank you for your insight, Kim

    When our Collections Department receives a bankruptcy, the account has a warning code placed to not allow statements from being sent (paper and email).  The question has come up:  Are we violating Reg. E, because according to Reg. E, a periodic statement is to be sent for an EFT.  How is your credit union handling statements for bankruptcies? Are you sending statements for savings and checking accounts and not delinquent loans?  Our statements show all the accounts together.Thanks.

    Hello,

    We currently do not have any policies or guidelines about receiving gifts from vendors and such. We understand that it is normal for vendors and members to give gifts of thanks. However, we are thinking there should be some guidelines in place for excessive gifts. Does anyone have any guidelines in place already that you would be willing to share? What are you thoughts on gifts?

    When reviewing mortgages for compliance with RESPA, how do you ensure that the special information booklets were provided to the member with in three days of application? Do you retain any documentation proving that these were provided?

  • Employee Questions Concerning Fraud and Embezzlement

    One of our branch Member Service Representatives came up short in their cash drawer to the tune of $2,500.  These funds have not been located. We have decided to interview the entire branch in an effort to gain more information. Does anyone have a list of questions they have used when interviewing staff regarding fraud or embezzlement? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Randy Brackman, Internal AuditorWauna Federal Credit Union
